The COVID-19 pandemic has seen the sector, as well as the world, greatly impacted. Throughout this time, we have worked closely with sector associations, our members, and also Governments to restart the Travel & Tourism sector.
Each week, we:
- hold weekly calls with all the key associations in the sector including; Airports Council International (ACI), Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), Duty Free World Council (DFWC), International Air Transport Association (IATA), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), U.S. Travel Association (USTA) and World Economic Forum (WEF).
- hold weekly calls with our WTTC members, during which governments across the world have been presenting what they are doing in their countries to help restart the sector.
- participate in webinars alongside associations, governments, and our members discussing recovery and restart.
Since the start of the pandemic and to help the sector recovery, we have sent a number of letters
calling for coordination between governments signed by 120 leaders in the Travel & Tourism sector.
In May 2020, due to the need for a globally coordinated approach to recovery, we launched the SafeTravels Protocols and Stamp
. Destinations and associations as well as the private sector have embraced the initiative, with requests from destinations & associations coming in daily.
In addition, we started our #TogetherInTravel campaign
, to encourage the sharing of travel stories. As a community, we encourage the world to fill social media with stories, images, videos, and more to keep the spirit of travel well and truly alive, as well as looking at the social impact of the sector. In June 2021, we launched our latest video in the #TogetherInTravel series, #Reunite
as now is the time to get the world moving again, to reunite families, friends, colleagues, and communities so we can safely reopen, rebuild and recover.
campaign focuses on giving a voice to someone whose livelihood was affected by the pandemic as behind every job in Travel & Tourism, there is a face, a story, a family and sometimes a whole community’s livelihood.
Given the threat COVID-19 poses to businesses, governments, and communities around the world, it is essential to understand and project the ever-evolving context to be able to make strategic, effective, and timely decision-making to re-open the sector responsibly. Oliver Wyman’s COVID-19 Pandemic Navigator
is an actionable forecasting tool cited by the Reich Lab COVID-19 Forecast Hub
and the CDC

Throughout the pandemic, we have been part of many industry campaigns throughout the pandemic including the latest campaign, #OpenUpToEurope, from the European Tourism Commission (ETC) focusing on reopening European tourism and a revival of travel confidence this summer. Click here to find out more
